Nigerian Defense Responds to Visa Allegations, Highlights Team’s Invictus Success

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed allegations regarding the Nigerian military’s visa requests for the Invictus Games in Canada, urging the public to support the armed forces in their mission to enhance national security and welfare.
Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau clarified that the military was officially invited to the event with a team of 24 members, including three officers and a physiotherapist, with accommodation and feeding covered by the Invictus Games Foundation. However, only 14 team members received visas, excluding key personnel, which prevented seven promising athletes from competing.
Despite this setback, Nigeria secured gold, silver, and bronze medals, proudly representing the nation on the global stage. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, had also planned to attend to boost the morale of service members, reinforcing his commitment to improving the welfare of troops. Additionally, the ongoing construction of Africa’s first Invictus Foundation Centre is part of a broader initiative to provide care and mental rehabilitation for wounded military personnel.
