Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Bans Flight Crew from Operating for Multiple Airlines
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a directive barring licensed flight crew members from operating for multiple airlines.
The new rule, which takes effect from November 11, 2024, follows reports from NCAA’s surveillance that some flight crew members have been using their privileges to operate for more than one airline by leveraging simulators and proficiency checks.
In a statement signed by the acting Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, the NCAA clarified that the use of flight simulator training devices and proficiency checks should be specific to individual airlines. The authority emphasized that pilots operating for multiple airlines simultaneously without regard for safety considerations could pose serious risks to aviation safety.
The NCAA further stated that the action violates Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCAR) and will face enforcement measures starting November 11. The regulator also clarified that future simulator renewals will be linked to a single airline operator, reinforcing the need for pilots to be aligned with the operator-specific training programs and procedures.
The NCAA’s move is aimed at improving safety standards within Nigeria’s aviation sector, ensuring that flight crew members are properly trained and focused on their respective airlines. Operators and flight crew members have been urged to comply with the new directive, with violators set to face strict penalties.
