Nigerian Army Arrests Notorious Kidnapper Suleiman Ahmad in Taraba
The Nigerian Army has successfully apprehended a notorious kidnapper, Suleiman Ahmad, who is accused of extorting over ₦70 million in ransom from his victims in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The arrest was confirmed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in a statement. During preliminary investigations, Ahmad reportedly confessed to abducting around 20 individuals in Lau Local Government. He also admitted to using an AK-47 rifle in carrying out his criminal activities. The statement revealed that Ahmad’s arrest was part of a larger crackdown on criminal activities in the area, which also saw the seizure of weapons and other materials linked to his operations.
The operation, which took place on November 12, 2024, targeted several villages, including Maraban Abare, Bomanda, and Karamuke. It was specifically designed to combat the growing trend of kidnappings in the region, which has caused fear and insecurity among residents. The Nigerian Army coordinated the sting operation as part of its broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and protect local communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the threat of kidnapping and violent crimes in the country. The statement emphasized that the Army would continue to allocate the necessary resources to ensure the safety and security of citizens, vowing to pursue and dismantle criminal gangs operating in various parts of Nigeria.
