Nigeria to Plant 20 Billion Trees in New Reforestation Drive

Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that Nigeria will launch a large-scale tree planting campaign during the upcoming rainy season, aiming to plant 20 billion trees as part of a national reforestation and environmental sustainability initiative inspired by Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Programme. Speaking during a state visit to Ethiopia, where he toured several agricultural and industrial sites, Shettima praised the country’s climate and economic strides, particularly its achievement in wheat self-sufficiency. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and explore replicating Ethiopia’s agricultural successes in Nigeria, aligning with President Tinubu’s push for economic diversification through expanded agricultural exports.
