Nigeria to Bounce Back from Shocking Rwanda Defeat, Says Eguavoen
Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has emphasized that Nigeria’s shocking 2-1 loss to Rwanda on Monday will not negatively impact the team’s performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The defeat, which took place in Uyo, has been a setback for the West Africans, but Eguavoen remains confident that it will not affect their preparations for the upcoming clash with Rwanda in Kigali when the qualifiers resume in March 2025.
Despite the loss, Eguavoen insisted that the team would take valuable lessons from the defeat and use it as an opportunity to assess and improve their strategies.
Furthermore, he expressed that they would evaluate the game thoroughly and develop the necessary plans to ensure a better performance in future encounters, including the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda in Kigali.
Currently, the Super Eagles are struggling in Group C, with three draws and one defeat from four games. They are yet to secure a win and sit in fifth place in the group with just three points. The team’s performance in the qualifiers so far has been underwhelming, but the coach remains hopeful that they can turn things around and still qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Eguavoen’s focus is now on regrouping and ensuring that the Super Eagles come back stronger, with the hope that the lessons learned from their recent defeat will help them improve as they move forward in the qualifiers. The team will look to correct their mistakes and continue pushing for a spot in the World Cup, despite the rocky start to their qualification campaign.
