Nigeria Loses 1-0 to Cameroon in Africa Military Games Football Opening Match
Nigeria faced a tough defeat in its opening game at the 2024 Africa Military Games (AMGA), losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the football event on Friday.
This was the first match for both teams, with Algeria and Equatorial Guinea also participating in the football competition. In the second match of the day, Algeria secured a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea.
In boxing, Nigeria’s Qozeem Qouum emerged victorious in the 63.5kg category, defeating Leonardo Dgraca. However, his teammate Damilola Salawudeen was not as fortunate, suffering a loss to Touareg Mohammed of Algeria in the 51kg category.
In wrestling, Nigeria’s Tochukwu Okeke earned a silver medal in the men’s 87kg Greco-Roman event, contributing to Nigeria’s growing medal tally at the games.
Additionally, Nigeria’s handball teams delivered outstanding performances on Thursday, winning gold in both the men’s and women’s events after defeating Ghana in their respective matches. These victories highlight Nigeria’s strong showing across multiple sports at the AMGA.
