Nigeria Labour Congress criticizes Minister of Power Over Electricity Claims

April 24, 2025

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu for his claim that 150 million Nigerians now enjoy “adequate electricity” with a power generation capacity of 5,500 megawatts. In a statement signed by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Joe Ajaero, he called the remarks “outrageous” and “pretentious,” highlighting the country’s ongoing power issues, including frequent blackouts and high tariffs. Furthermore, the union pointed out that Nigeria’s power generation is far below the global standard, with the current capacity insufficient for a population of over 200 million as the union accused the minister of misleading the public and mocking the harsh reality faced by millions of Nigerians without reliable electricity.
