Nigeria Expresses Condolence as 76 Die in Türkiye Hotel Fire

The Nigerian government has extended its condolences to the Government and People of Türkiye following a devastating fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort, which claimed 76 lives and injured more than 50 others.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the acting spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, conveyed the nation’s sympathy over the tragic incident.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express deep condolence to the Government and People of the Republic of Türkiye over the unfortunate fire incident at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort,” the statement read.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, occurred in Bolu Province in Northwestern Türkiye. Emergency responders battled the flames, but the incident resulted in significant loss of life and injuries.
The Nigerian government also expressed its support for the families affected by the tragedy and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathises with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the families of the victims of the fire incident and also wishes a speedy recovery of the injured,” the statement added.
The Grand Kartal Hotel is located in a popular ski resort area, and the incident has cast a shadow over the winter tourism season. International support and condolences continue to pour in as Türkiye deals with the aftermath of this heartbreaking event.
