March 14, 2025

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed approximately ₦900 million to public institutions in Kwara State, benefiting thousands of students under the federal government’s student loan scheme. Speaking at a sensitization program in Ilorin, NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sanya, revealed that 400,000 applications have been received nationwide, with 70 percent approved.

The initiative aims to ease financial burdens on students and expand access to quality education. Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq lauded the scheme as a lifeline for children from low-income families and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with NELFUND on sensitization, mentorship, and skills development. University officials, including those from the University of Ilorin and Muhammad Kamaldeen University, praised the initiative, with calls for private institutions to be included. Education stakeholders encouraged students to take advantage of the scheme to enhance their academic and career opportunities.
