NAFDAC Workers Launch Indefinite Strike Over Unresolved Welfare Issues
The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), representing workers of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has initiated an indefinite strike due to unresolved staff welfare concerns.
This industrial action began on October 7, 2024, as workers voiced their demands regarding several critical issues. These include the review of 2024 promotion examination results, the filling of key director positions, reforms to the promotion exam content, and the establishment of a psychology officer cadre as directed by the Head of Service.
The strike also highlights concerns about the payment of pending burial expenses, life insurance, repatriation allowances, and salary arrears for employees hired in 2022 as the union had previously issued a 14-day ultimatum to NAFDAC management in a communique dated September 20, 2024.
Following the ultimatum’s expiration, a staff congress convened on October 4, where the decision to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike was reached unanimously as they expressed frustration over NAFDAC management’s failure to address these pressing issues within the specified time frame.
Furthermore, the association emphasized the need for full compliance with the strike order, urging state and zonal coordinators to ensure adherence among all members.
The union has made it clear that the industrial action will continue until all demands are met, reflecting their commitment to achieving satisfactory resolutions for their members’ welfare.
