NAFDAC Orders Immediate Closure of Gomboru Drug Market in Maiduguri Due to Flooding

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered the immediate closure of the Gomboru drug market in Maiduguri due to significant flooding that has contaminated the area.
This decision is part of NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health, as the floodwaters have compromised the integrity of drugs that were improperly dried and prepared for resale.
In a statement, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) emphasized the dangers posed by the contaminated drugs, which have been exposed to floodwaters and then inadequately sun-dried.
Meanwhile, the Director General of The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, directed a comprehensive shop-to-shop inspection to ensure that all compromised drugs are removed from the market.
The flooding in Maiduguri was reportedly triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, which had been at capacity for over a week. This environmental disaster not only affected the drug market but also raised concerns about public safety in the region.
