Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze Among Early Arrivals as Super Eagles Open AFCON 2025 Qualifiers Camp in Abidjan
Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze were among the first players to report for Super Eagles’ camp on Monday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as the Nigerian national team gears up for their crucial AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Six other players—Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, Gabriel Osho, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru—joined Simon and Chukwueze in the early arrivals. The team’s media officer confirmed that a total of eight players had checked in by Monday, with several others expected to arrive by Tuesday.
The Super Eagles’ squad, led by captain William Troost-Ekong and including Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and 19 additional players, is preparing for two decisive qualifiers.
Currently at the top of Group D, the Super Eagles will face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday, needing just a point to secure their spot in the final AFCON tournament.
With an impressive record of seven goals scored and none conceded, including a three-goal advantage granted by the CAF Disciplinary Board after Libya forfeited their Matchday 4 encounter, the Super Eagles are well-positioned in their group.
Securing a point against Benin Republic would take Nigeria to 11 points, making it mathematically impossible for second-placed Rwanda to surpass them in the standings.
Following the match in Abidjan, the Super Eagles will travel to Uyo, Nigeria, on Friday for their final qualifier against the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday. With Rwanda trailing at five points and facing a significant goal deficit, Nigeria is considered the favorite for qualification.
