Minister of Interior Reaffirms Commitment to Secure, Tech-Driven Nigerian Borders

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to secure, strategic, and technologically advanced border management during a high-level meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and stakeholders in Abuja. Highlighting progress, he noted the completion of Phase One of Nigeria’s e-Border Surveillance System and the launch of digitalized travel and visa processes aimed at boosting national security and economic activity.
The Minister emphasized that all national security engagements must respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and involve relevant authorities, condemning a recent unauthorized IOM-funded workshop. In response, the IOM Nigeria Chief of Mission praised Nigeria’s innovation and expressed readiness to strengthen partnership based on respect, transparency, and collaboration for improved migration and border governance.
