Minister of Education Links UTME Mass Failure to Crackdown on Exam Malpractice

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa has attributed the high failure rate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to the success of the government’s anti-malpractice efforts, particularly through JAMB’s strengthened computer-based testing and security measures. With over 78 percent of candidates scoring below 200, Alausa said the results highlight a significant reduction in cheating as he announced that WAEC and NECO will begin transitioning to computer-based testing by November 2025, with full implementation by mid-2026, as part of broader reforms aimed at curbing exam fraud and restoring integrity to Nigeria’s education system.
