Military Clarifies Sokoto Airstrike Incident, Blames Secondary Explosion

December 27, 2024

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has attributed the deaths of approximately ten individuals in Sokoto to what it described as a “secondary explosion” following military strikes in the region.

The incident occurred in Silame Local Government Area, where villagers were reportedly killed, and several others injured.

The Sokoto State Government had earlier announced that ten villagers lost their lives due to the military’s airstrikes in the area. However, the DHQ clarified that the casualties were not caused directly by the strikes but resulted from subsequent explosions triggered during the operation.

The Defence Headquarters expressed its commitment to minimizing civilian harm during operations and emphasized the importance of accurate reporting of incidents to avoid misinformation.
