Married Female Corps Members No Longer Need to Change Names for Redeployment says NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a significant change in its policy regarding married female corps members.
The new directive states that married female corps members will no longer be required to change their maiden names to their spouse’s name for redeployment or relocation purposes as this decision is part of a broader review of the criteria for granting concessional deployment to married women serving in the corps.
The announcement was made through a circular signed by Abubakar Mohammed, the Director of Corps Mobilization. The circular was sent to various directors, acting directors, as well as state and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators, informing them of the updated policy. This move aims to ease the process for married female corps members seeking redeployment without the added requirement of changing their names.
The circular, titled “Review of criteria for concessional deployment/relocation for married female corps members,” outlined that while the name change requirement has been removed, all other criteria for requesting redeployment remain unchanged. This change is expected to simplify the process and reduce administrative burdens for married female corps members.
State coordinators are now tasked with communicating this update to relevant personnel, ensuring that the new policy is followed in future redeployment or relocation requests. The adjustment reflects the NYSC’s ongoing efforts to adapt to the needs of its corps members while maintaining the integrity of its operations.
