Libyan Federation Clarifies: Flight Diversion Was a Routine Matter, Not an International Incident
The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has addressed allegations that it deliberately delayed the Nigerian Super Eagles at Al Abraq International Airport.
In a statement released on Monday, October 14, the federation asserted that they have been hospitable hosts and denied any wrongdoing regarding the treatment of the visiting team.
The Nigerian squad encountered unexpected complications when their chartered flight was diverted to Al Abraq, a smaller airport primarily used for hajj operations.
In response to the situation, the LFF emphasized that such flight diversions can occur due to routine air traffic control procedures, security checks, or logistical challenges, which are common in international travel as the Libya Football expressed regret for any inconvenience experienced by the Super Eagles and reaffirmed their respect for their Nigerian counterparts.
Furthermore, the statement from the LFF dismissed any accusations of intentional misconduct, asserting that there was no basis to claim that Libyan security teams or the federation orchestrated the incident. They concluded by extending an invitation to maintain camaraderie and sportsmanship among African teams, promoting unity within the football community.
