KWASU Assures Law Students: JAMB Admission Ban Won’t Affect Ongoing Programmes

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has reassured its law students that the recent one-year suspension of admissions into its law programme will not impact those currently enrolled.
This assurance came through a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, in response to concerns over the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) recent announcement.
Dr. Aliyu explained that the ban resulted from a decision by the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to sanction KWASU for initiating its law programme in 2018 without obtaining prior approval from the CLE, though it had received accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“Management wishes to state that the one-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programmes in the University’s Faculty of Law,” the statement read.
She further emphasized that KWASU holds all regulatory institutions in high regard and will comply with the CLE’s directive by suspending admissions into its law programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
JAMB had announced on Wednesday that it would not process admissions for the LL.B. programmes at KWASU and seven other universities following the CLE’s directive.
Despite this setback, KWASU encouraged prospective students to consider other accredited programmes within the university.
The university assured the public that it remains committed to delivering quality education while working towards resolving the regulatory concerns with the CLE.
