Kwara United’s coach Criticizes Missed Opportunities, Officiating After Kwara United’s 2-1 Loss
Kwara United’s coach, Tunde Sanni, has attributed his team’s 2-1 defeat to Rivers United to missed opportunities and poor officiating. Despite taking the lead first in the match, the Afonja Warriors were unable to maintain their advantage, ultimately falling to the hosts in Port Harcourt. Sanni expressed his frustration, pointing out that his team should have been in a much stronger position, given the number of chances they created.
The coach stressed that his team squandered several clear opportunities, and if they had capitalized on these, they could have been leading by at least three goals. He highlighted the importance of punishing mistakes made by the opponent, noting that failing to do so often leads to consequences, as seen in the game. Sanni believed that the team’s inability to take advantage of their chances contributed significantly to their defeat.
In addition to the missed chances, Sanni was also critical of the officiating in the match. He claimed that Kwara United was unfairly penalized with almost eight yellow cards, while Rivers United players escaped similar discipline despite committing fouls. Sanni voiced concerns over what he perceived as a decline in the standard of officiating, which he felt negatively impacted his team’s performance.
Looking ahead, Kwara United will host Katsina United in Ilorin for their match on Day 18 of the league. Sanni will be hoping his team can bounce back from the defeat and improve both their finishing and the consistency of officiating in future games.
