Kwara Students Laud AbdulRazaq for Investment in Education and Welfare

November 26, 2024

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued investment in education and students’ welfare, noting significant improvements under his leadership. The students made this commendation during a courtesy visit to the Governor, where they highlighted various initiatives and support from the current administration, particularly the prompt payment of bursaries and additional student welfare support after the subsidy removal.

NANS President, Comrade Issa Abdulgafar Arikewuyo, described Governor AbdulRazaq as a student-friendly leader dedicated to the development of education in the state. “To whom much is given, much is expected. We will be ungrateful if we cannot come today to show to the world that the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is a student-friendly personality,” Arikewuyo said, adding that the Governor’s actions have made students feel valued.

Arikewuyo also praised the Governor for several significant interventions in the education sector, including the establishment of Kwara State University of Education, the provision of solar-powered lighting at Kwara State University Malete, and the provision of 250 ICT infrastructures at the College of Aviation Ilorin.

NAKSS President, Comrade Abdulwahab Habibullahi, similarly applauded the Governor for initiatives such as scholarships for law students, the provision of a bus for the leadership of the students’ union, and free bus rides for students. “Today is a remarkable day in the history of students in Kwara State,” Habibullahi said. “We are here today to appreciate His Excellency for all the unwavering support and commitment he has been showing to students’ leadership in the state.”

In response, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude for the students’ visit and acknowledged their leadership’s productive engagement with the administration. He emphasized his commitment to continuing to support students through empowerment programs and other initiatives designed to help them achieve their aspirations.

“I must say that your leadership engagement with the government has been fruitful to the state. It will continue to elicit positive responses from the government to support your activities for the betterment of the student bodies,” the Governor said. He reassured the students that his administration would continue to integrate them into various empowerment programs, encouraging them to present proposals that could further enhance their welfare.

Governor AbdulRazaq also commended the Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe, for his proactive efforts in supporting students and ensuring the public good. Onidugbe, in turn, explained that the visit was part of activities marking the students’ Annual Unity and Harmony Week, a tradition introduced to promote unity among students. He said the visit was intended to celebrate the Governor’s efforts and to highlight the positive changes in the education sector under his administration.

“This year, the students deemed it fit to pay Your Excellency a special visit to celebrate and appreciate you for taking good care of their welfare,” Onidugbe added. “This is also to enlighten the public on the great strides you have made in the education sector.”

The students’ visit underscores their continued appreciation for the Governor’s ongoing efforts to improve the educational landscape in Kwara State and their commitment to working collaboratively with his administration.
