Kwara State Government Takes Action to Mitigate Flooding, calls for calm among Residents
The Kwara State Government has announced new measures to tackle the adverse effects of flooding in various areas of the state.
According to newsmen, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Buge, the state commissioner for environment, urged residents to remain calm amid recent changes in rainfall patterns that have led to significant flooding.
Meanwhile, the government reassured citizens that the current flooding is a temporary situation that is expected to improve over time as officials attribute the flooding to global trends influenced by climate change, which have altered traditional weather patterns due to both natural events and human activities.
The commissioner highlighted that the rainy and dry seasons no longer align with the typical transition months, a shift linked to increased atmospheric, oceanic, and land temperatures. This change has raised concerns about future flooding incidents and public safety.
Furthermore, to address these challenges, the state government the state is implementing proactive measures, including ongoing dredging of the Asa River, constructing embankments, desilting drainage systems, and providing additional waste bins. They are also expanding the dump site to improve waste disposal practices across the state.
