Kwara state Government Plans Independent Power Plant to Boost Economy, Create Jobs
The Kwara State Government has announced plans to construct an Independent Power Plant (IPP) aimed at generating electricity for both commercial and utility purposes.
Engr. AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, the state’s Commissioner for Energy, shared this information during a media briefing in Ilorin, the state capital, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing the region’s power supply.
He emphasized that the proposed Independent Power Plant (IPP) will not only drive economic growth but also create numerous job opportunities across Kwara State.
Additionally, he noted that the government is actively promoting renewable energy solutions, including solar, thermal, and bio gas, to reduce air pollution and foster a healthier environment for residents.
The commissioner pointed out that the initiative aligns with the 2023 Electricity Bill signed by President Bola Tinubu, which empowers state governments to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity. This legislation aims to bolster economic development and attract investments to the states.
Additionally, AbdulGaniy outlined the achievements of his ministry, including the procurement and installation of transformers in various communities such as Asa, Moro, Ilorin West, and Kaiama. He mentioned the construction of an 11KV dedicated feeder from Agba-Dam and the approval of a 15MVA 33/11KV power transformer for Alagbado and Sobi Communities, all under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who remains dedicated to meeting the needs of the people.
