Kwara state Assembly Calls for Increased Awareness on Heart Disease Prevention
The Kwara State House of Assembly has called for increased public awareness of the prevention of heart-related diseases, emphasizing the importance of early detection and proactive health measures.
The motion, presented by Rasaq Owolabi, the representative for the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, was raised during the plenary session on Wednesday in Ilorin.
He highlighted heart diseases as a growing concern that could significantly affect the heart’s regular functions, urging a focus on preventive health strategies.
Owolabi, in presenting the motion, identified several risk factors for heart diseases, including excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, unhealthy eating habits, and illegal drug abuse. He called for more focused efforts to educate the public about these risks and the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles to prevent heart conditions.
In his closing remarks, Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu supported the motion and urged the state government to direct the Ministry of Health, along with other relevant stakeholders, to develop long-term strategies for managing and preventing heart-related conditions.
Additionally, he stressed the need for comprehensive health awareness campaigns to promote early diagnosis and reduce the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in the state.
Lawmakers also took the opportunity to commend Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for its ongoing efforts to improve the health sector. They acknowledged the strides made in providing better access to quality healthcare services for the people of Kwara while emphasizing the need for further investment in health awareness and preventive care.
