Kwara Ministry of Justice Takes Over Case of Student’s Murder, Defendant Faces High Court Trial

The Kwara State Ministry of Justice has announced its decision to take over the case of Abdulrahman Bello, who allegedly murdered and dismembered Yetunde Lawal Hafsoh, a final-year student of the State College of Education. A legal representative from the ministry, Barrister Issa Zakare, informed the court that legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) confirmed that Bello has a case to answer and will be properly arraigned at the High Court. The counsel to the deceased’s family, Barrister Hussein Folorunsho, did not oppose the ministry’s application but urged the court to ensure justice for the victim and her family. Presiding over the case, Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad adjourned the hearing to March 20 and ordered the continued remand of the defendant at Okekura Custodian Centre. As he was being led out of the courtroom, Bello pleaded for the release of those arraigned with him, claiming he acted alone in committing the crime. After the session, Barrister Folorunsho called for the enforcement of capital punishment for those convicted of heinous crimes, urging state governors to sign death warrants where necessary to provide justice and relief for the public and affected families.
