Kwara Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare, Receives World Bank Recognition

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners, emphasizing improved working conditions, self-development opportunities, and overall well-being.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, during the fourth quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room in Ilorin. She highlighted the administration’s dedication to prompt payment of salaries and pensions while ensuring timely implementation of staff promotions.
Dr. Nuru announced the approval of a three-month financial bonus for all civil servants, including local government workers, equivalent to the monthly PAYE obligation. The bonus, to be paid between October and December 2024, is aimed at cushioning the impact of subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
She further emphasized the state’s adoption of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), which has enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accountability in financial management. Other reforms mentioned include improved land titling processes, the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, and digitization of land records to promote transparency and attract investors.
Dr. Nuru also lauded the success of the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) and the Business Enabling Reform Action Plans (BERAP), which have successfully eliminated barriers to economic activities, creating an investor-friendly environment.
Kwara State’s efforts have earned recognition from the World Bank’s SABER programme, with the state receiving significant reimbursement as a reward for its accountability, transparency, and compliance with global financial standards.
In line with its commitment to workers’ welfare, the Ministry of Finance has renovated office spaces, remodeled its conference room, provided modern furniture and ICT tools, and installed solar power systems to ensure uninterrupted electricity and operational efficiency.
Dr. Nuru praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s exceptional leadership, which she credited for the state’s achievements, including recognition in the fourth Independent Verification Assessment (IVA) of the NG-CARES programme.
She reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to fiscal prudence and development-focused governance, pledging to uphold international best practices.
“These remarkable achievements would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose dedication to transparency and development has laid the foundation for our continued progress,” Dr. Nuru concluded.
