Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has expressed the state government’s strong commitment to closely monitoring the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of Mr. Jimoh Abdulqadir, who passed away in police custody. The Governor urged the public to remain calm as the authorities work toward a resolution.
Governor Abdulrazaq commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for his swift visit to the deceased’s family, which he described as a positive step in the pursuit of justice.
“We are devastated by the death of Mr. Jimoh Abdulqadir. It was one tragedy too many for our community. It is unacceptable,” Governor Abdulrazaq said, expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Sidiq Atiku Fulani.
While calling for calm, the Governor assured that the state and national police leadership would ensure a transparent investigation into the incident. He emphasized the importance of addressing concerns raised by the public, urging the police to take necessary actions to prevent future violations.
In a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary, the Governor also praised the efforts of the Balogun Fulani and the youths of Ilorin for their maturity and restraint in handling the sensitive situation, urging them to continue maintaining peace and lawfulness.
“We are optimistic that the police hierarchy will uncover the truth and ensure justice is served. We appeal to residents, especially the youth, to avoid making hasty judgments that could derail the process of finding genuine resolutions,” he added.
Governor Abdulrazaq concluded with a prayer for the repose of Mr. Abdulqadir’s soul and reiterated his government’s commitment to upholding justice in Kwara State.
