November 20, 2024

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday inaugurated the Justice Sector Reform Teams’ (JSRT) Conference in Ilorin, lauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed optimism about the conference’s potential to advance judicial reforms under the leadership of Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN.

“I have confidence that the JSRT will address all pending issues on judicial reforms from a position of knowledge and patriotism, and in a way that strengthens public confidence in the judicial system,” he said.

Organized by the Federal Ministry of Justice, the three-day conference attracted high-profile attendees, including AGF Fagbemi SAN, Kwara State Chief Judge Justice Abiodun Adebara, Grand Kadi Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, Kwara State Attorney General Bar. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, and Prof. Muhammad Tabiu SAN, among others.

AGF Fagbemi emphasized the conference as a crucial platform to assess challenges, explore innovative ideas, and enhance collaboration among justice sector stakeholders.

“This conference is a platform for deliberating on pertinent issues, improving the justice system, increasing accountability, and strengthening coordination among stakeholders,” Fagbemi said. He also highlighted the event’s connection to the National Summit on Justice held in April 2024.

Praising Kwara’s strides in justice reform, Fagbemi expressed pride in his roots, stating, “I am proud to tell all participants that I am from this state, and my Governor is a man of the people. His leadership in the Governors’ Forum reflects a commitment to reforming this critical sector.”

Prof. Muhammad Tabiu SAN underscored the symbolic significance of hosting the event in Ilorin, commending the state’s legacy of leadership across governance and the legal profession.

“This conference offers an opportunity to harness Kwara’s rich history of exceptional leadership to advance justice reforms,” Tabiu remarked.

The conference continues through Thursday, November 21, 2024, focusing on harmonizing strategies to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of Nigeria’s justice system.
