Kwara Governor Distributes 3,000 Energy-Saving Stoves, 193 Motorcycles Under ACReSAL Project
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has launched the distribution of 3,000 energy-saving cooking stoves for women and 193 motorcycles for agricultural extension agents across the state under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project.
The initiative, implemented through the ministries of Environment, Water Resources, and Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to address climate challenges, boost agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable energy use across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the symbolic distribution ceremony in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by Commissioner for Special Duties Hon. John Bello, highlighted the project’s potential to improve rural development and enhance living standards.
“The distribution of energy-saving cooking stoves and motorcycles today is part of the gains and benefits of our investment in people-oriented interventions through the World Bank,” he said. “The unique feature of the ACReSAL project is that it provides an opportunity to address diverse climatic challenges, impacting water supply and agricultural services. It is also part of our broader strategy to enhance rural development and improve living standards across the state.”
The Governor called on stakeholders, including community leaders, local government officials, and NGOs, to ensure the sustainability of the program for maximum impact.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, praised the initiative as a significant stride in advancing agriculture in the state.
“These motorcycles are more than just vehicles; they are vital lifelines for agricultural extension agents, connecting even the most remote farmers to advanced agricultural practices and timely support,” she said.
State Project Coordinator for ACReSAL, Alhaji Samsudeen Aregbe, credited the administration’s payment of counterpart funds for enabling the state to benefit from the World Bank-supported project. He assured the public that the stoves and motorcycles would be equitably distributed across the state’s local government areas.
The event was attended by members of the Kwara House of Assembly, local council chairmen, cabinet members, farmers, and other stakeholders. The distribution underscores Kwara State’s commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of its rural communities.
