Kwara Government Receives Praise for Improved Justice Sector Performance

The Kwara State Government has been lauded for its efforts in reforming the justice sector, improving case adjudication, and ensuring fairness in legal proceedings. The commendation came from the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq., who highlighted the government’s progress during an Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room in Ilorin.

Sulyman, represented by Alhaji Salau Kabir Abdullahi, the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply at the Ministry of Justice, emphasized the administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s judiciary. He assured that the prosecution and defense of government cases are handled diligently and without delay.

The Attorney General acknowledged the government’s significant strides in improving the judicial process, especially under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He noted that the administration has worked to streamline bureaucratic processes, making it easier to handle court cases, draft and vet legal documents, prosecute criminal cases, and provide legal advice to ministries and agencies.

Sulyman highlighted the Ministry’s accomplishments in the past quarter, including the resolution of numerous civil litigation cases, ongoing criminal prosecutions, and the successful vetting of 39 agreements and two law bills. The Ministry also played a critical role in handling 41 legal drafting cases.

In terms of revenue-related cases, Sulyman noted the successful handling of six high court and revenue court cases, alongside 21 concluded cases. He also reported impressive progress in the Public Defender’s Department, with 86 ongoing cases and 37 concluded cases. The Citizens Mediation Centre managed 35 complaints, of which 29 were successfully concluded.

The Ministry of Justice also generated a total of ₦161,256,529.19 during the review period, highlighting the growing efficiency of the justice sector.

In his closing remarks, the Attorney General expressed gratitude to the state government for providing a conducive environment for the Ministry to perform its duties effectively. He also thanked the government for addressing the Ministry’s requests in a timely manner, which has significantly contributed to the improvements observed in the justice system.
