Kwara Government Begins N500 Million Compensation Payment for Industrial Park Expansion

January 29, 2025

Over 1000 landowners, land purchasers, and farmers whose land was acquired for the expansion of the Industrial Park in Eiyenkorin, Kwara State, received N500 million in compensation from the state government.

The compensation, as explained by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS), Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, was intended to extinguish subsisting rights on the land in line with constitutional provisions, not as a purchase of the land. The affected land, spanning 15 communities in Asa Local Government Area, covers 2,100 hectares and is being acquired for the industrial park aimed at boosting agriculture, industry, and the economy in the state.

KWGIS officials clarified that the land had been retrieved by the government since 1976, with prior notifications given to claimants, and emphasized that the project would accelerate local infrastructural development. The orderly payment process was praised by community leaders, including the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr. Uthman Abubakar-Jos, while beneficiaries like Garuba Aremu Galadima expressed their support for the development of the area.
