Kwara CP Forms Committee to Address Harassment of Students and Youths by Police
In response to increasing reports of police harassment involving students and young people, the Kwara State Police Command has established a joint committee to tackle the issue. The committee includes student leaders and government representatives and was initiated by Salami Wasiu Onidugbe, the Special Assistant to the Kwara Governor on Student Matters.
The formation of this committee follows several troubling incidents, including the recent death of Abdulquayum Ishola, an ND 2 student at Kwara State Polytechnic, due to alleged police harassment. Fresh Insight News has reported that the committee will be responsible for providing timely and accurate information on such incidents and assisting the police in deploying responses and conducting investigations.
Kwara Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya emphasized the force’s commitment to addressing malpractice and promised strict punishment for any officers found guilty of misconduct. He urged student leaders to collaborate with the police to promote peace and ensure a harmonious environment in the state.
