Kithure Kindiki Sworn in as Deputy President of Kenya After Court Ruling
Kithure Kindiki has officially taken office as Kenya’s new Deputy President after a court lifted the legal barriers that had delayed his inauguration.
His swearing-in came after weeks of challenges from former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached by Parliament on allegations of gross constitutional violations and inciting ethnic tensions.
Despite Gachagua’s claims that these charges were politically motivated, the Senate voted to remove him from office in October.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi and attended by President William Ruto, diplomats, and over 100,000 spectators as Friday November 1st was declared a public holiday in Kenya.
