Kano Government Releases 76 Minors Arrested in End Bad Governance Protest
The Kano State Government has officially released the 76 minors who were arrested during the End Bad Governance protest, returning them to their parents.
In a formal statement, the government issued a strong warning to the parents, advising them against seeking donations or support for their children as the government made it clear that any attempts to collect funds under the guise of a Parents Association would not be tolerated and would be met with serious consequences.
Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by his Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the withdrawal of charges against the minors, describing the initial charges as unjust.
Furthermore, the governor emphasized that the incident served as an important lesson, reinforcing that violence and unlawful actions during protests are unacceptable. He urged the public to learn from the event and avoid engaging in unlawful activities.
In addition to the release, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, provided an update on the well-being of the minors, confirming that they had all received medical attention for various health issues and were in stable condition. The government is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all citizens, especially minors, and has assured that the young protesters are now fully recovered.
Hamza Nuhu Dantani, the legal counsel for the minors, explained that while peaceful protests are not illegal, the situation escalated due to acts of violence and destruction. He urged the young people involved to focus on positive actions and contribute meaningfully to society, advising them to make their parents proud by channeling their energy into constructive endeavors. The government’s response highlights the need for greater attention to issues such as unemployment and education, which were central to the protests.
