Jaywon Reveals Rift with Ayra Starr Over Viral Photo Controversy
Nigerian singer Jaywon has opened up about his strained relationship with fellow artist Ayra Starr, citing an incident involving a viral photo that led to online trolling. In a recent interview with News Central, Jaywon expressed frustration with Ayra Starr and her management for not addressing the trolls who used the photo to mock him.
The viral photo, which shows Ayra Starr holding Jaywon’s hand to prevent him from touching her waist, quickly gained attention online, with fans and trolls alike weighing in. Jaywon claimed that while he intended the photo as a friendly gesture to celebrate Ayra’s success, the reaction and her management’s approach left him feeling disappointed.
“The Ayra Starr situation is unfortunate. We are not cool,” Jaywon stated. “People don’t get it. What would make me, Jaywon, want to take a picture with Ayra Starr? Of course, she’s an amazing artist making Nigeria proud. It’s all about love and supporting young talent.”
However, Jaywon criticized Ayra Starr’s team for not intervening as the photo trended. “Your management only promoted the picture back-to-back. Nobody is dumb. They feel like if they say something, the picture will stop trending. They enjoy it,” he remarked, suggesting that her team capitalized on the attention.
Despite the disagreement, Jaywon acknowledged that “everybody has their time” in the industry, implying he’s moving on from the incident. However, he believes that addressing such issues is essential to avoid misunderstandings among artists.
