Inter Miami Coach Tata Martino Resigns for Personal Reasons After Successful Year
Lionel Messi will be working under a new manager next year after Gerardo “Tata” Martino stepped down as head coach of Inter Miami CF.
Martino, who had one year remaining on his contract, resigned for personal reasons, according to ESPN. His departure comes just weeks after Messi and Inter Miami were eliminated from the first round of the MLS playoffs, following a loss to Atlanta United FC in a best-of-three series.
Martino joined Inter Miami in June 2023, taking over from Phil Neville, and quickly made an impact. Under his leadership, the team won the 2023 Leagues Cup, and they went on to claim the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. The team also set a new league record for most points accumulated in a single season during the 2024 campaign, marking a successful tenure.
The Argentine coach is expected to address the media on Friday, where he will explain his decision to leave the club as the press conference will include co-owner Jorge Mas and president of football operations Raúl Sanllehi, who will likely offer insights into the club’s plans moving forward.
Martino’s exit marks the end of a remarkable, albeit brief, period of success for Inter Miami, during which Messi’s arrival was central to the team’s achievements. Now, with the departure of their coach, the club will begin searching for a new leader to guide them in the coming season.
