Inspector General of Police Warns Recruits Against Indiscipline, Corruption at Kwara Graduation Ceremony

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, addressed newly graduated police recruits in Kwara State, urging them to maintain the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in their duties. Speaking through the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, at the graduation ceremony of 587 recruits from the 2022 batch in Ilorin, Egbetokun emphasized that their conduct, both on and off duty, would shape public perception of the police force.
The IGP underscored that discipline is the foundation of a successful policing career, reminding the recruits that their future in the force depends on their character, commitment, and adherence to the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force. He made it clear that there would be no tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, or misconduct, urging the new officers to uphold the rule of law and commit to the values of courage, fairness, and professionalism.
Egbetokun further highlighted the event as the culmination of rigorous physical, intellectual, and emotional preparation, transforming the recruits from civilians into professional police officers ready to tackle the challenges of modern policing. He noted that the recruitment and training of 10,000 new officers reflects the federal government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the police force and enhancing national security.
In his speech, the IGP also emphasized the importance of the police uniform as a symbol of service, sacrifice, and responsibility. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational capabilities of the force, through initiatives like the Police Trust Fund and partnerships with the Ministry of Police Affairs. Egbetokun concluded by calling for collective efforts to create a safer and more secure Nigeria.
