Inspector-General of Police Implements Movement Ban for Edo Election Day
The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced a restriction on movement in Edo State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
This measure aims to ensure that adequate security protocols are in place for a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
In a statement by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force spokesperson, he revealed that all vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation will be restricted from 6 am to 6 pm on election day as exemptions will be made for those on essential duties, including accredited media personnel, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.
He further emphasized the necessity for citizens to report any suspicious activities that may jeopardize the integrity of the electoral process and urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and adhere to electoral laws, stating that any attempts to disrupt the election will be met with legal consequences.
