IGP Egbetokun Pledges Fair Conduct for November 16 Election in Ondo State
The Nigerian Police Force has pledged to ensure that the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State is conducted impartially.
This commitment was made by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, during a meeting with Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting aimed to review past accomplishments, outline future strategies, and reinforce the police’s dedication to maintaining law and order nationwide.
He emphasized the importance of impartiality, professionalism, and high standards of conduct to protect democracy during the election, which is scheduled for November 16, 2024. He announced that police personnel would undergo rigorous training focused on conflict resolution and maintaining public order throughout the electoral process.
The Inspector-General of Police also revealed plans for a senior police officers’ conference and retreat set for November 25 to 28, 2024, in Abeokuta, Ogun State as he underscored the significance of teamwork and collaboration within the Force, as well as with government and non-governmental agencies, to effectively address the country’s diverse security challenges.
Egbetokun’s commitment comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the election, announcing that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will begin on Thursday. INEC has printed a total of 89,777 new PVCs, which will be available for collection at 221 centers across the state, ensuring that registered voters can participate in the upcoming election.
