The Inspector General of Police (I-G), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, announced on Tuesday that the Nigeria Police Force is rolling out new special training programs aimed at enhancing policing ethics, professional conduct, and accountability. These mandatory training courses, which will start in January 2025, will apply to all officers, from recruit constables to superintendents, as part of efforts to improve policing standards across the country.
Egbetokun announced at the National Summit on Police Accountability, which focused on the strategies and mechanisms for both external and internal accountability within the Nigeria Police Force. Egbetokun emphasized that the new training initiatives were designed to improve effective policing and ensure officers are held accountable for their actions. He added that the Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to continuously improving the skills of its officers through regular training, including courses on alternative dispute resolution, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution.
