IGP Deploys Police Personnel Nationwide to Tackle Holiday Crime Surge
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of personnel to strategic locations, key areas, and identified hotspots nationwide to combat traffic and highway robberies, as well as other criminal activities during the festive season.
The initiative aims to enhance public safety and protect lives and property during a time of increased mobility and public gatherings.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized the importance of ensuring public safety and highlighted the increased police presence on major highways and roads prone to criminal activity, particularly highway robberies, which tend to surge during the festive season.
The statement also detailed recent successes in curbing criminal activities. On December 10, 2024, four suspected robbers were arrested by police operatives in Lagos State for their involvement in a robbery syndicate operating in the Costain area. Additionally, a suspected armed robber was apprehended in Anambra State on December 6, 2024, leading to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles from his residence.
The NPF reiterated its commitment to providing a safe environment for Nigerians during and beyond the holiday season, assuring citizens that they can celebrate without the threat of crime. The public is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities to ensure a safe and peaceful festive period.
