IG Orders Clampdown on Killers of Policemen in Borno
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed an immediate crackdown on those responsible for the deadly explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, which claimed the lives of two officers.
The tragic attack occurred on January 9, 2025, around 12:10 a.m., resulting in the deaths of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat. The Borno State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, attributed the incident to suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, the IGP condemned the act, emphasizing that those involved in the killing of police officers would face justice. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them of the prompt payment of all benefits and entitlements.
“In a resolute response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, which led to the deaths of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators as any cop-killers will go unpunished,” the statement read.
The IG has tasked AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie of Zone 15 to deploy all necessary resources and collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the culprits are apprehended.
Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Egbetokun declared that anyone disrupting the country’s security would face the full weight of the law. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
