Hungary Announces Withdrawal from International Criminal Court Amid Netanyahu’s Visit

Hungary has announced its decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces an ICC arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza, arrived for a state visit. Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a strong ally of Netanyahu, had dismissed the warrant as unacceptable and made it clear that Hungary would not enforce it. Although Hungary ratified the Rome Statute, the law was never integrated into its legal system, preventing any ICC measures from being carried out. The withdrawal process is set to begin, with the country’s parliament, dominated by Orban’s Fidesz party, expected to approve it.
