House of Reps Calls for Stronger Waste Management to Combat Pollution

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to enhance waste management strategies to address environmental pollution and its health risks. This call followed a motion by Julius Pondi, highlighting the dangers of poor waste disposal, especially in the oil and gas sector. Despite existing environmental laws, enforcement gaps persist, leading to health hazards, agricultural decline, and environmental damage. The House urged stronger regulation by agencies, collaboration with state and local governments, and stricter compliance by industries. It also mandated its Committee on Environment to conduct a nationwide survey on pollution and report its findings within four weeks.
