House of Representatives Urge President Tinubu to Act on Restoring National Social Investment Programs Agency Accounts
The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the unfreezing of the accounts of the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) within 72 hours.
This resolution was passed on Tuesday after a motion was introduced by Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu, alongside 32 other lawmakers.
The call for action comes after President Tinubu ordered the suspension of all social intervention projects in January due to corruption scandals within the sector.
NSIPA oversees critical programs like N-Power, the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT), and the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).
The lawmakers argued that restoring NSIPA’s accounts would support the president’s vision of effective and impactful poverty alleviation efforts. They emphasized the importance of quickly resolving the issue to ensure the continuity of these programs, which play a key role in the administration’s poverty eradication goals.
Additionally, the House urged the government to release the necessary funds to NSIPA for the payment of outstanding stipends owed to 395,731 N-Power beneficiaries across the country, stressing that these payments should be made without further delay.
