House of Representatives Call for Arrest, Prosecution of Fake Number Plate Users.

The House of Representatives has urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to arrest and prosecute individuals using fake vehicle number plates to curb rising criminal activities in the country.
This resolution followed a motion by Matthew Nwogu, representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, who emphasized that vehicle plate numbers aid in identifying vehicles and tracking those involved in crimes.
Citing a February 7, 2025, report by Vanguard, Nwogu highlighted that many fake plates used in crimes bear tags of respected institutions like the Presidency, Nigeria Youth Council, and the National Association of Nigerian Students. He linked the prevalence of fake plates to incidents of ‘One Chance’ robbery and kidnappings, stressing that the current state of insecurity in Nigeria necessitates urgent action.
The House expressed concern that some number plates associated with government agencies are not registered in the Nigeria Vehicle Registration database. Members overwhelmingly supported the motion, urging the FRSC and police to intensify efforts to apprehend users of fake plates, trace their producers, and ensure that only registered vehicles are allowed on the roads.
