Historic Moment: LeBron and Bronny James Make NBA History Together with Lakers
LeBron James and his eldest son, Bronny James, made NBA history on Sunday by playing together for the Los Angeles Lakers during a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.
This moment marked the first time a father and son duo appeared in the same NBA lineup as the pair took to the court together at the start of the second quarter, although the Lakers ultimately lost the game 118-114.
LeBron had a strong performance, scoring 19 points in just over 16 minutes of play before sitting out the second half.
In contrast, Bronny faced challenges, finishing with zero points in just over 13 minutes, attempting only one shot. Despite the uneven stats, LeBron reflected on the significance of the moment for their family, expressing how meaningful it was to share the court with his son.
New Lakers coach, J.J. Redick also shared his excitement about the historic event, noting that it highlights both LeBron’s longevity in the league and Bronny’s hard work to reach this point. The anticipation surrounding their first game together had been building since the Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th pick in the NBA Draft in June.
As LeBron enters his 22nd season, he has expressed that playing alongside Bronny has rejuvenated his passion for the game as he emphasized the joy of working with his son and the mutual motivation they provide each other, making it a memorable experience for their family.
Meanwhile, Bronny has acknowledged the criticism he faces regarding his place on the team, stating that he uses it as motivation to prove himself. Although he is expected to spend much of his rookie season in the G-League, the father-son duo is set to make their regular season debut on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
