Governor Zulum Forms 32-Member Committee for Maiduguri Flood Relief
Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno has established a 32-member committee to oversee flood disaster relief distribution for victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri. This initiative was announced in a statement by Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, the Secretary to the Borno Government. The committee is tasked with ensuring that aid reaches those affected by the disaster effectively and efficiently.
Alhaji Baba Gujubawu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Evaluation, has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee, while Prof. Ibrahim Umara from the University of Maiduguri will serve as Co-Chairman. This leadership is expected to guide the committee in its critical mission to support flood victims.
The committee includes representatives from various organizations, such as the North East Development Commission, Police, EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NSCDC, NEMA, SEMA, and traditional and religious leaders. Additionally, representatives from United Nations organizations and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Borno will participate, bringing diverse expertise to the relief efforts.
The devastating flood on September 10 was caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam spillway, leading to numerous fatalities and extensive property damage in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. The formation of this committee aims to address the urgent needs of those impacted and facilitate a coordinated response to the disaster.
