Governor Okpebholo Approves Free Transportation for Edo Residents
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced free transportation services for residents across the state through the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS).
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor described the initiative as part of his administration’s vision under the policy direction, “A New Edo Has Risen.” The free bus service will cover both intra-city routes within Benin City and inter-city routes across the state’s three senatorial districts.
“The free bus service, which covers Benin metropolis and the three senatorial districts of Edo State, is part of the commitment of Governor Okpebholo to enhance the welfare of all Edo people,” the statement said. “This initiative will ease transportation stress and ensure our people can move freely without financial burdens.”
Routes in Edo Central, including Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, and Uromi, as well as towns in Edo North, such as Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar, are fully included in the scheme.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s goal of improving the standard of living for Edo citizens by addressing critical challenges like transportation.
The free transportation program is expected to provide significant relief to commuters, particularly in light of rising costs of living and transportation in Nigeria. Residents have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it will enhance mobility and promote economic activities across the state.
This initiative is one of several measures introduced by the Okpebholo administration to deliver on its commitment to the welfare and prosperity of Edo State residents.
