Gov. Hope Uzodimma Announces ₦70,000 Minimum Wage, Pensions Arrears Settled
On Tuesday, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma announced the implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in the state.
This decision, made after a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House in Owerri, reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its workers as the new wage is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve the living standards of civil servants in Imo State.
The announcement came as part of the governor’s wider efforts to address workers’ concerns and ensure that they are adequately compensated for their services. The governor also disclosed that the state government had approved the payment of arrears for pensions and gratuities owed to retirees as he emphasized that the welfare of both active workers and retirees is a sacred obligation, and the government remains committed to meeting these financial responsibilities.
In addition to the minimum wage increase, the governor revealed that a 10% increment would be applied to those on consolidated salary structures. This adjustment aims to ensure fairness and equitable salary enhancements across all categories of workers. The state government is also taking steps to reflect financial promotions recently earned by employees, further improving their compensation.
Governor Uzodimma highlighted that the new wage policy goes beyond just the minimum wage increase. He assured workers that the government would continue to uphold the regular payment of the 13th-month salary, ensuring comprehensive welfare measures for the state’s workforce.
