Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo Takes Legal Action Against Ex-Manager for Alleged Royalties Theft

Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, accusing him of diverting $345,000 in music royalties.
The singer claims that Onyedikachukwu failed to remit her fair share of royalties from her online platforms and concerts. In response to the accusation, the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a motion to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court, and a Lagos State federal high court issued a warrant for his arrest.
Onyedikachukwu is set to face charges on January 24, 2025, related to the alleged misappropriation of Chinwo’s royalties. The EFCC’s affidavit supporting the application reveals that Chinwo had previously submitted a petition against her former manager. Despite the Commission’s efforts to apprehend Onyedikachukwu, the manager has remained elusive, leading to the request for an arrest warrant.
Mercy Chinwo, who was signed to EeZee Conceptz record label, owned by Onyedikachukwu, in 2017, reportedly parted ways with the label in 2022. The split followed a dispute regarding financial matters, with both parties unable to resolve the issue. This lawsuit stems from the ongoing fallout between Chinwo and Onyedikachukwu.
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the EFCC’s request for an arrest warrant against Onyedikachukwu during a court session on Thursday. The case continues to draw attention due to the significant amount of money involved and the ongoing tensions between the gospel singer and her former manager.
